Save DACA! Weekly Call to Action!

1. TELL YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TO SPEAK OUT QUICKLY AND FORCEFULLY AGAINST TRUMP’S WHITE SUPREMACIST AGENDA AND HIS BETRAYAL OF THE DACA PROGRAM

Removing DACA protections from 800,000 young people is certain to turn their lives upside down, and harm the communities where they live, work, and study. The only beneficiary will be the for-profit immigrant detention complex and Trump’s runaway deportation machine, which would embark on a new taxpayer-funded mission to apprehend, process, detain and remove these young people.

2. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AND TWO SENATORS TODAY AND DEMAND THAT THEY INCLUDE A CLEAN “DREAM ACT” (S.1615 / H.R.3440) AS A PART OF ANY MUST-PASS BILL THIS MONTH

Now that the Trump White House announced the end of DACA, Congress has two disasters to immediately respond to—one of them is Harvey, and the other one is the Trump-made tragedy of ending relief from deportation for 800,000 young Americans who now face an uncertain future. Tell [SENATOR CRUZ/CORNY OR CONGRESSMAN JODEY ARRINGTON] to include a clean DREAM Act in any must-pass package they are planning this month. The DREAM Act would give DACA recipients and others who arrived in the United States as children a path to permanent lawful status and eventual citizenship.

Senator Ted Cruz: 202-224-5922 | Fax: 202-228-0755

Congressman Jodey Arrington: 202-225-4005 | Fax: 202-225-9615

3. SAMPLE DIALOGUE:

Caller: Hello! My name is [NAME] and I’m calling from [ZIP CODE] Could you please tell me what the [Senator Cruz/Cornyn or Representative Arrington]’s position is on Trump’s announcement that he is ending the DACA program to provide relief from deportation for 800,000 DREAMers who came to the United States as children?

Staffer: [Senator/Representative] agrees with Donald Trump’s decision to end DACA.

Caller: That is terrible. How can [Senator/Representative] justify ripping 800,000 DREAMers from their homes? Some of them arrived in the United States when they were so young, they have no other country to call home. Did you know that there are 138,440 DACA recipients in Texas alone, and each year they contribute 313 million in State and local taxes?

Staffer: I didn’t know that. I will pass along your concerns to the [Senator/Representative].

Caller: Please do, and tell him that as his constituent here in West Texas, I expect [Senator/Representative] to get on the right side of history with this issue and co-sponsor the bipartisan DREAM Act. The bill number is S.1615 / H.R.3440. It is inhumane to tear away young people who are American in every way except on paper—and our economy would take a huge hit if they are forced to leave their jobs

Senator John Cornyn: 202-224-2934 | Fax: 202-224-5220

Senator Ted Cruz: 202-224-5922 | Fax: 202-228-0755

Congressman Jodey Arrington: 202-225-4005 | Fax: 202-225-9615

4. OPPOSE H.R. 3697.

The House is expected to vote this Tuesday on a bill that criminalizes immigrants, including those fleeing gang violence, and allows more of them to be detained and deported. It also affects vulnerable populations such as asylum seekers, TPS holders, and unaccompanied children. Representative Arrington please vote no on H.R. 3697, the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act.
